I love spending time by the beach, pool, and lake, but unless I am actually in the water, you will not find me prancing around in my bathing suit. You will find me in my swimsuit cover-up , giant hat, and sunglasses. More than likely I will be under a tree, umbrella, or anything that will keep the sun’s death rays from burning my skin. I have tried to just rely on sunscreen for protection in the past, and inevitably end up burned, so I happily wear my cover-up for protection. I have two current favorite cover-ups: one that resembles an over-sized shirt and one that is a little like a mini dress.
I have had this cover-up for a couple years now and have worn in a handful of times with skinny white jeans in the summer. I like this one for lounging around because it is roomy and quite comfortable.
The mini dress was a find at Gucci Goodwill earlier this month. The mini dress gets worn when I need to go somewhere like lunch on a beach or a beach bar. Obviously, it is great for dancing.
If I were in the market for a new cover-up, this striped one from J. Crew would be on the top of my list. While it is sheer, it would be perfect for lounging under a umbrella.
This DVF kaftan would also be on top of my list. If you found yourself at a beach bar or restaurant, I would feel totally comfortable. I might even be up for dancing in it.
What is your cover-up of choice?
This past weekend I turned 31 and my sweet husband rented a lake house to celebrate. It was a fantastic time and just how I wanted to spend my birthday.
On Friday, we went to a winery and I wore my new Theory blouse. Every year I buy myself a birthday dress, but I couldn’t find one I loved this year. I bought many online and returned them all. I tried on this dress at Anthropologie, but didn’t really love it. In the end, I am really glad I went with a birthday blouse instead. My only complaint about this blouse is that it tends to gape open when you sit down. Next time I will wear fashion tape to keep it secure.
Karen Walker sunglasses, Theory top, Banana Republic shoes, and Adrienne Vittadini shorts.
I was a little worried that this year would not include a cake, but luckily my husband picked up a gluten-free red velvet cake from Delish. It was really great and I would never have guessed it was gluten-free.
There was also a lot of sangria and time spent in this hammock.
All in all, it was a great weekend. How was yours?
I finally bought the Theory blouse I have been lusting after for months. While it wasn’t cheap, I did get it on sale. Sometimes good things come to those who wait.
This happens every time I get the Anthropologie catalog: I want EVERYTHING. Every.Single. Thing. And then I go into the store and don’t want much. I went yesterday, tried on a few pieces, but left empty handed. Today the new catalog came in, and again, I need it all. I want this white bag and I do not like white bags. Oh, Anthro, why must you do this to me? Does a catalog do this to you?
Here in Austin, it is officially summer. I love summer and all of its water related activities. What I don’t love as much is actually being in a bathing suit. I love swimming, but lounging in my bathing suit is not something I love. In order to make this a bit easier, I have been trying to make myself a little more bathing suit ready by using Jergens Natural Glow and dry brushing.
I am a fair-skinned person, but this Jergens has helped me be a little less pasty. It is pretty foolproof and doesn’t smell like some other self-tanners I have used. I don’t like getting an actual tan, but really prefer the way I look in a swimsuit if I have a bit of color. Jergens does just that.
I have also been relying on dry brushing to help minimize the apperarnce of cellulite.
While I know that nothing truly gets rid of cellulite, I do think my dry brushing has helped. Maybe it is all in my head, but it makes me feel better. Three or four times a week before a shower, I dry brush my body. I don’t have a fancy brush, just one I got as a gift after a spa treatment. These two things combined have helped ease my bathing suit anxiety a bit. What do you do to prep for the summer?
Lame is the only word I can come up with for this blog lately. I hate when people say they have been too busy to do xyz, but that is the only excuse I can come up with. I’m behind on all forms of social media and anything else not work related. This is, of course, not a bad problem to have, but I still feel lame about it. Next week should be different and I hope to be able to post somewhat regularly. Anything is better than what I have been managing to pull off.
On another note, I would totally buy this dress if it weren’t polyester. Wouldn’t it be fun for the summer?
I am shocked that these are sold out in certain sizes. These things are hideous. I mean, really? Who would wear these? Oh, they are also almost 700 dollars. Seriously.
