One of my most recent clients was a college student. Her look consisted of lots of t-shirts and jeans, but thankfully, she did not rock the Nike shorts and oversized t-shirt look. She was looking to add a few new pieces that would help make her casual look a little more polished. Being in college, for most, means that there isn’t really money for extras like clothing. Whenever I am looking for inexpensive pieces for clients, I always turn to the thrift store, Old Navy, or Forever 21. Here are my picks for her from Old Navy.
This sweater will easily elevate a t-shrit and jeans look. Pair it with a black or cream t-shirt, or go bolder and pair it with a striped top.

This bird print top is just as easy as a t-shirt, but adds a bit of polish to the overall look.

I love this neon bag and it would be a great pop of color to any outfit.

Topping a concert tee, converse, and jeans with a blazer instantly pulls the whole look together.

Swapping out your plain denim for a black pair of skinnies instantly makes the look more sophisticated.

One of the simplest (and cheapest!) ways to spice up an outfit is through accessories. This scarf adds a bit of interest without breaking the bank.

What is your go to place when you need something inexpensive for your wardrobe?

Cute finds! I love that blazer! Reminds me of one I saw on ASOS yesterday, but for a whole lot less!
I probably swing through Forever 21 once a week looking for fun pieces to jazz up my wardrobe. We’ve also got a couple of Lou Lou boutiques here that I love checking out.
What is a Lou Lou boutique? Is that a local boutique?
It’s been a long time since I’ve shopped Old Navy but with pieces like these I might have to check them out again!
Sometimes they surprise you!
Great post, good tips. My go tos for filling in wardrobe gaps without breaking the bank is h&m, forever 21, and nordstrom rack. I really like nordstrom rack for accessories and designer and high quality shoes and clothing finds at insanely marked down prices. I do think some nordstrom racks are much better then others though. I’ve also been known to utilize coupons with clients in different stores during huge sales. I scored one of my clients $600 worth of clothes for a little over $200 at New York & Co. at the beginning of January this way.
Love Nordstrom Rack! I agree, such a great place to get good deals! Sounds like you are quite good at landing great deals. I bet your clients love you!
My go-to inexpensive shopping spot is Joe Fresh, a Canadian brand that is sold in Superstores in Canada… And they opened, about 2 years ago, their first street front boutique in Vancouver, I think they plan to (or have already) expand to Toronto. They have awesome, unique, well priced items (Jentine wears pieces from Joe ALL the time, too – her gold skinny jeans, if you read My Edit). The designer used to be the head designer for Club Monaco, I believe, and he creates awesome stuff.
Oh, and also Value Village, and if I’m in Nova Scotia, Frenchie’s, an amazing chain of thrift stores that operate exclusively in Atlantic Canada. I do hit up Old Navy from time to time, but rarely do I find anything that works for me. Best Old Navy purchase ever was a steeply marked down black bikini that I still wear and STILL looks fabulous.
That neon yellow bag is amazing, though. I might need to take a trip to an Old Navy.
Joe Fresh sounds great! Wish we had one here.
WOW! Those were all Old Navy? I’m going to have to start shopping there for myself, as well as my daughter. Cute and stylish choices. I usually hit the sales racks first when I shop, so that could be anywhere. My best find recently was an adorable linen plaid scarf at Henry Lehr (AWESOME store!) for only $10!!
Yep! They have have loads of misses and poorly made products, but they also have some hits!
HELLO bird print top! These are great picks!
LOVE that blazer! You can find some really great things at Old Navy. I also like Macy’s clearance racks and Ross.
I love that top sweater – how does it look on?
I go to the thrifting… I think you might have guessed that.
I also shop at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. It’s hit or miss, but I’ve bought a few awesome things there (ex. I found my Paige shorts for $20 this past summer).
I mean “I go to the thrift store.” But I always thinking about thrifting. Haha.
The good old college days. For the majority of my classes, you were dressed up if you worn jeans and a shirt to class. Everyone just slumped around in their pjs and sweats. There was one girl in a couple of my classes work worked at a local jewelry store and she always came to class dressed to the nines.(she was my style hero for that.)
Great picks for the young lady, all of those work lovely for college life.
